The Humble Glory of Christ

The Humble Glory of Christ

Series: Jesus is Greater | A Study in Hebrews

Speaker: Tim Latham

Detail:

This is a basic home worship guide you can use to worship together in your home this Sunday. We encourage you to gather together with your family and any other neighbors or friends that might be in your home to worship with you. Choose a leader to lead the “Leader” portions. If you’re musical, feel free to sing, if not, you can just skip the singing parts!

Preparation for Worship

Leader: Fill our worship with grace, Lord Jesus Christ, that every thought, word, and deed may be acceptable to you, our Rock and Redeemer, Amen.

Call to Worship | Psalm 86

Leader: There is none like you, O Lord, nor are there any works like yours.
People: All the nations you have made shall come and bow down before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name.
Leader: For you are great and do wondrous things,
People: You Alone, are God.

Prayers of Adoration

Spend a few minutes praising God. You could just invite people to say words out loud that characterize God and His care for us, or thank for who He is and what He has done for us.

Hymn | The Church’s One Foundation

Prayer of Confession | 1 John 1

Leader: Lord, you showed us true humility by becoming one of us,
People: Yet too often, we practice pride.
Leader: You cried alongside your friends and for the city of Jerusalem,
People: Yet too often, we rush past the pain of others and are careless for our communities.
Leader: You loved those who were weak, despised, or cast out,
People: Yet too often we love those who are strong, respected, or popular.
Leader: You freely forgave and healed,
People: Yet too often we hold grudges and cause pain.
Leader: You lived a perfectly holy life,
People: Yet too often, we do not yearn for righteousness.
Leader: You prayed that we who believe in you should be united with each other and you,
People: Yet too often we focus on the differences that separate us from other believers.
Leader: You were mocked, whipped, and killed for us,
People: Yet too often we doubt and deny you. Forgive us, Lord.

Time for Silent Confession

Assurance of Pardon

Leader: God says, “I will cleanse them from all the guilt of their sin against me, and I will forgive all the guilt of their sin and rebellion against me.”  This is the Promise of the Lord!
People: Thanks be to God!

Gloria Patri

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son:
and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be:
world without end, Amen, Amen.

Offertory | In Christ Alone (Pamela Johnson)

Doxology

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!
Praise Him all creatures here below!
Praise Him above ye heavenly hosts!
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost! Amen.

Scripture | Hebrews 2:5-18

Homily

Hymn | We Will Feast in the House of Zion

Confession of Faith | The Apostles’ Creed

Leader: Christians, what do you believe?
People: I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there he shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Hymn | Blessed Be Your Name

Commission

May the Lord bless you and keep you, may the Lord make His face shine upon you, and give you peace forever, Amen.
