The Meaning of Faith
Series: Jesus is Greater | A Study in Hebrews
Speaker: Tim Latham
Detail:
This is a basic home worship guide you can use to worship together in your home this Sunday. We encourage you to gather together with your family and any other neighbors or friends that might be in your home to worship with you. Choose a leader to lead the “Leader” portions.
Preparation for Worship
Leader: O God, you pour out the Spirit of grace and love, deliver us from cold hearts and wandering thoughts, that with steady minds and burning zeal we may worship you in spirit and truth. Amen.
Call to Worship
Leader: All who thirst, come to the water.
Come, all who are weary; come, all who yearn for forgiveness.
The Holy Spirit through Jesus Christ has washed over us,
and our gracious and holy God beckons and blesses us,
Drink Deeply of these living waters.
People: Glory to you, O Lord, glory to you.
Prayers of Adoration
Spend a few minutes praising God. You could just invite people to say words out loud that characterize God and His care for us, or thank for who He is and what He has done for us. Today, on Pentecost, you might pay special attention to the gift of the Holy Spirit
Hymn | Be Thou My Vision
Prayer of Confession
Leader: There are many times when we think we love you well, O God. But after hearing your call to love you with all our heart, and all our mind, and all our strength, we confess that our love for you is a diluted love, made insipid and flat by lesser loyalties and a divided heart. Our love seems pure only for brief moments; soon our affections are drawn away. How easily our devotion dies. Forgive us; in deep mercy spare us, despite our lost first love for you; in grace rekindle our love for you in seeing anew Jesus’ love for us.
Time for Silent Confession
Assurance of Pardon
Leader: God said through the prophet Jeremiah, “I will cleanse them from all the guilt of their sin against me, and I will forgive all the guilt of their sin and rebellion against me.” This is a Promise of the Lord!
People: Thanks be to God!
Gloria Patri
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son:
and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be:
world without end, Amen, Amen.

Confession of Faith | The Apostles’ Creed
Leader: Christians, what do you believe?
People: I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there he shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
