Series: Jesus is Greater | A Study in Hebrews
Speaker: Tim Latham
Detail:
This is a basic home worship guide you can use to worship together in your home this Sunday. We encourage you to gather together with your family and any other neighbors or friends that might be in your home to worship with you. Choose a leader to lead the “Leader” portions.
Preparation for Worship
Leader: O God, you pour out the Spirit of grace and love, deliver us from cold hearts and wandering thoughts, that with steady minds and burning zeal we may worship you in spirit and truth. Amen.
Call to Worship | Psalm 86:8-10
Leader: There is none like you, O Lord, nor are there any works like yours.
People: All the nations you have made shall come and bow down before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name. For you are great and do wondrous things, you alone are God.
Prayers of Adoration
Spend a few minutes praising God. You could just invite people to say words out loud that characterize God and His care for us, or thank for who He is and what He has done for us. Today, on Pentecost, you might pay special attention to the gift of the Holy Spirit
Hymn | And Can It Be?
Prayer of Confession
Leader: God of everlasting love, we confess that we have been unfaithful to our covenant and one another. We have worshipped other gods; money, power, greed, and convenience.
We have served our own self-interest instead of serving only oyu and your people.
We have not loved our neighbor as you have commanded, nor have we rightly loved ourselves.
People: Forgive us, gracious God, and bring us back into the fullness of our covenant with you and one another.
Time for Silent Confession
Assurance of Pardon
Leader: Our God pardons our sins and forgives our disobedience!
Our God does not stay angry forever; instead God delights to show mercy!
Our God has compassion on us and removes our iniquities from us!
Give thanks to God for our God is Good!
People: Thanks be to God!
Gloria Patri
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son:
and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be:
world without end, Amen, Amen.

Scripture | Hebrews 12: 1-17
Homily
Praise | In Christ Alone
Confession of Faith | The Apostles’ Creed
Leader: Christians, what do you believe?
People: I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there he shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
