Message From Tim
March 5th is Ash Wednesday, the transition from the Liturgical season of Epiphany to Lent. The season of Lent is a time of reflection, repentance, and renewal as we prepare our hearts for the joy of Easter. Rooted in the historic practices of the Church, Lent invites us to follow Christ’s path to the cross with humility and gratitude. Y’all maybe familiar how Catholics and other Christians adopt some strict behaviors in Lent to practice this humility. For us as Presbyterians, we approach this season not as a requirement but as a meaningful opportunity to grow in faith through prayer, Scripture, self-examination, and acts of mercy.
Here are some ideas for you to consider implementing this Lent.
- Setting aside time each day for intentional prayer – I’d recommend praying the Psalms this season!
- Do a personal daily devotion reading through one of the Gospels or using a Lenten devotional.
- Fast if not from food, from something that can distract us from God or pull us further away from spending time with Him!
- Acts of mercy like writing notes of encouragement, giving generously, or helping your neighbor!
Lent is not about making yourself suffer for no reason but becoming more like Jesus in His journey to the Cross so that we can also be more like Him in His Glory! However, you choose to observe Lent, may this season draw you closer to our Lord, shaping you ever more into His likeness and sending you out to embody His love!
