I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life
Series: The Gospel of John
Speaker: Tim Latham
Detail:
This is a basic home worship guide you can use to worship together in your home this Sunday. We encourage you to gather together with your family and any other neighbors or friends that might be in your home to worship with you. Choose a leader to lead the “Leader” portions. If you’re musical, feel free to sing, if not, you can just skip the singing parts!
Preparation for Worship | From Psalm 46
Leader: Be still, and know that I am God.
Call to Worship | From Psalm 46
Leader: God is our refuge and strength
People: A very present help in trouble.
Leader: The nations rage, the kingdoms totter.
People: But the Lord utters his voice, and the earth melts.
Leader: Therefore we will not fear, though the earth gives way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.
People: The Lord of hosts is with us! The God of Jacob is our refuge. Everyone: Amen.
Prayers of Adoration
Spend a few minutes praising God as maker and keeper of all things. You could just invite people to say words out loud that characterize God and his care for us, for example, “Thank you that you are sovereign over all,” or “We praise you for your power in the midst of our weakness.”
Hymn | Great is Thy Faithfulness
Prayer of Confession
Leader: We read in the Psalms that we are to lift our eyes to the mountains, to the Lord for our peace.
People: But so often we look to what we can do, and we live in fear.
Leader: Our help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
People: But so often we live as if our help comes from ourselves, and we live in anxiety.
Leader: Therefore let us confess that we fail to believe God’s promise to us: That the Lord watches over us. Words of Comfort and Assurance
Assurance of Pardon
Leader: Our world, broken and scarred, still belongs to God.
People: He holds it together and gives us hope.
Leader: With the whole creation we wait for the purifying fire of judgment.
People: For then we will see the Lord face to face.
Leader: God will be all in all, righteousness and peace will flourish, everything will be made new.
People: And every eye will see at last that our world belongs to God! Come, Lord Jesus.

Confession of Faith | Heidelberg Catechism, Question 1
Leader: What is your only comfort in life and in death?
Everyone: That I am not my own, but belong with body and soul, both in life and in death, to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood, and has set me free from all the power of the devil. He also preserves me in such a way that without the will of my heavenly Father not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, all things must work together for my salvation. Therefore, by his Holy Spirit he also assures me of eternal life and makes me heartily willing and ready from now on to live for him.
