Summer is the Perfect Time to Gather Goodies for Operation Christmas Child!

Remember the excitement we shared about partnering with Operation Christmas Child for 2025? We're thrilled that so many of you are embracing our year-long approach to collecting items, making it easier than ever to bring joy and the love of Jesus to children around the world.

As the warmth of summer settles in, it might seem like the holiday season is far away. But guess what? These sunny months offer a fantastic opportunity to thoughtfully gather items for those special shoeboxes we'll be packing later this year!

Think about those long summer days and the activities they inspire. Perhaps you'll find a great deal on a set of small toys while browsing a local store. Maybe your kids have outgrown some gently used (but still in great condition!) small dolls or cars that would bring a smile to a child's face. Those back-to-school sales might just have the perfect notebooks, pencils, or crayons to include.

Why Summer is Shoebox Shopping Season:

  • Spread the Cost: Collecting items gradually over the summer makes it more budget-friendly than trying to purchase everything at once in the fall.
  • Thoughtful Finds: You'll have more time to browse and find unique, quality items that will truly bless a child.
  • Involve the Family: Make it a fun summer activity! Get your kids involved in choosing items and understanding the joy of giving.
  • Declutter with Purpose: As you tidy up closets and play areas, consider setting aside suitable items for Operation Christmas Child instead of letting them gather dust.

What Can You Be On the Lookout For This Summer?

While we'll continue to highlight specific items each month, here are some general categories that are always appreciated and easy to find during the summer:

  • Small Toys: Think cars, small dolls, jump ropes (cut short), yo-yos, small puzzles, and building blocks.
  • School Supplies: Crayons, markers, colored pencils, notebooks, erasers, pencil sharpeners.
  • Hygiene Items: Toothbrushes, small tubes of toothpaste, bars of soap (in a baggie), combs, and washcloths.
  • Fun Extras: Stickers, small musical instruments (like harmonicas or whistles), hair accessories, and sunglasses.

Remember, the recommended age groups are 2-4, 5-9, and 10-14 years old, so keep those in mind as you shop. Contact Elizabeth Dilks to learn more.

Don't Forget the Guidelines!

A quick reminder that all items should be new and please avoid including food, liquids, or anything that could melt or break easily. You can always refer to the complete "What to Pack" list on the Samaritan's Purse website for detailed guidance.
