I am the Vine

I am the Vine

Series: The Gospel of John

Speaker: Tim Latham

Detail:

This is a basic home worship guide you can use to worship together in your home this Sunday. We encourage you to gather together with your family and any other neighbors or friends that might be in your home to worship with you. Choose a leader to lead the “Leader” portions. If you’re musical, feel free to sing, if not, you can just skip the singing parts!

Preparation for Worship | From Psalm 46

Leader: Be still, and know that I am God.

There is so much fear and confusion surrounding us right now; take a moment not to forget our circumstances but to pause our anxiety and focus on God.

Call to Worship | From Psalm 34

Leader: I will extol the Lord at all times; His praise will always be on my lips.
People: I will glory in the Lord; let the afflicted hear and rejoice.
Leader: Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together.
People: I sought the Lord, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.

Prayers of Adoration

Spend a few minutes praising God as maker and keeper of all things. You could just invite people to say words out loud that characterize God and his care for us, for example, “Thank you that you are sovereign over all,” or “We praise you for your power in the midst of our weakness.”

Hymn of Praise | In Christ Alone

Prayer of Confession not done

Leader: Wondrous God, who created and sustains the whole world, we come to you admitting that too often we try to hide from your presence, how seldom we look for your face, your will, your work, and your wisdom in our lives.

People: Lord, have mercy upon us.

Leader: Lord, you took on human flesh to atone for our sins and failures, you give us this opportunity to abide in you, despite how often we turn away from your path.
People: Christ, have mercy upon us.
Leader: Holy Spirit, you have been poured out upon the church to give us power and comfort yet today, we frequently look away and focus on our own weakness and fear.
People: Spirit, have mercy upon us.

Take time for individual, silent confession.

Assurance of Pardon not done

Leader: God says, “I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and clean you from your uncleanness and idols.”
People: Thanks be to God!
Leader: He has given us a new heart and a new spirit.
People: Thanks be to God!

Offering

Please take a moment to reflect on God’s provision in our lives and consider donating online (http://fairviewepc.org/give/) or through the mail. Despite our concerns for our health, our friends, our jobs, our finances and everything else threatened by Covid-19, we still know that God is Good.

Offertory | Yes, God is Good

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!
Praise Him all creatures here below!
Praise Him above ye heavenly hosts!

Homily

Hymn of Reflection | Abide with Me

Confession of Faith | The Apostles’ Creed

Leader: Christians, what do you believe?
People: I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there he shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Hymn of Commision | Jesus, Firm Foundation

Commission

May the Lord bless you and keep you, may the Lord make His face shine upon you, and give you peace forever, Amen
