A Greater Sacrifice

A Greater Sacrifice

Series: Jesus is Greater | A Study in Hebrews

Speaker: Tim Latham

Detail:

This is a basic home worship guide you can use to worship together in your home this Sunday. We encourage you to gather together with your family and any other neighbors or friends that might be in your home to worship with you. Choose a leader to lead the “Leader” portions.

Preparation for Worship

Leader: O God, you pour out the Spirit of grace and love, deliver us from cold hearts and wandering thoughts, that with steady minds and burning zeal we may worship you in spirit and truth. Amen.

Call to Worship

Leader: In Christ, the God of heaven has made His home on earth.
People: Christ dwells among us and is one with us.
Leader: Highest of all creation, He lives among the least.
People: He journeys with the rejected and welcomes the weary.
Leader: Come now, all who thirst.
People: and drink the water of life!
Leader: Come now, all who hunger
People: and be filled with good things!

Prayers of Adoration

Spend a few minutes praising God. You could just invite people to say words out loud that characterize God and His care for us, or thank for who He is and what He has done for us. Today, on Pentecost, you might pay special attention to the gift of the Holy Spirit

Hymn | All Creatures of our God and King

Prayer of Confession

Leader: God of all nations, we praise you that through Christ, all of the destructive barriers of humanity have been torn down. You have freed us from sin so that we might have abundant life, assurance, and true fellowship with you and our brothers and sisters. Yet, too often, we fall back into despair and fear; too often, we are slow to love our brothers and sisters of different races, nationalities, and political opinions; too often, do we let our pride and selfishness reign as the defining characteristic of our lives. We come to you today, to confess not only our individual sins of idolatry, pride, and prejudice but also the corporate sins we are seeing played out in our society. We ask for deliverance from the virus, the fear, the racism and the violence enveloping our world so that we can move toward living as one in Jesus.
Time for Silent Confession

Assurance of Pardon

Leader: Jesus Christ came into this world to save sinners. He Himself bore our sins on the cross so that we might be dead to sin and alive to all that is good. In His name, you are forgiven! This is the Promise of the Lord!
People: Thanks be to God!

Gloria Patri

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son:
and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be:
world without end, Amen, Amen.

Offering

Please take a moment to reflect on God’s provision in our lives and consider donating online or through the mail.

Offertory |  God of Grace and God of Glory (Pamela Johnson)

Doxology

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!
Praise Him all creatures here below!
Praise Him above ye heavenly hosts!
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost! Amen.

Scripture | Hebrews 9:11-28

Homily

Praise | Revelation Song

Confession of Faith | The Apostles’ Creed

Leader: Christians, what do you believe?
People: I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there he shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Hymn | Immortal, Invisible

Commission

May the Lord bless you and keep you, may the Lord make His face shine upon you, and give you peace forever, Amen.
