A Greater Covenant

A Greater Covenant

Series: Jesus is Greater | A Study in Hebrews

Speaker: Tim Latham

Detail:

This is a basic home worship guide you can use to worship together in your home this Sunday. We encourage you to gather together with your family and any other neighbors or friends that might be in your home to worship with you. Choose a leader to lead the “Leader” portions.

Preparation for Worship

Leader: O God, you pour out the Spirit of grace and love, deliver us from cold hearts and wandering thoughts, that with steady minds and burning zeal we may worship you in spirit and truth. Amen.

Call to Worship

Leader: The love of God has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us;
People: We dwell in Him and He in us!
Leader: Give thanks to the Lord and call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples. Sing praises to Him and speak of all His marvelous works;
People: Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!

Prayers of Adoration

Spend a few minutes praising God. You could just invite people to say words out loud that characterize God and His care for us, or thank for who He is and what He has done for us. Today, on Pentecost, you might pay special attention to the gift of the Holy Spirit

Hymn | Holy, Holy, Holy!

Prayer of Confession

Leader: Generous God, you send us the Spirit of courage, but we have been afraid. You send us the Spirit of truth, but we cling to our illusions. You send us the Spirit of healing, but we cannot let go of our hurts. Holy Spirit of forgiveness, come to us again; shake our hearts, set our souls on fire with your love, send us out into the world rejoicing in your power. We hold out to you all our particular burdens of guilt and sin, and we ask for your help to live the way of justice and love.

Time for Silent Confession

Assurance of Pardon | Romans 8:1-2, 11

Leader: There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life sets us free from the law of sin and death. And if the Spirit of God who raised Jesus from the dead lives in us, God who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to our mortal bodies through the Spirit, who lives in us! This is the Promise of the Lord!
People: Thanks be to God!

Gloria Patri

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son:
and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be:
world without end, Amen, Amen.

Offertory |   Holy Spirit - Linda Gyrath

Doxology

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!
Praise Him all creatures here below!
Praise Him above ye heavenly hosts!
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost! Amen.

Scripture | Hebrews 8:1-13

Homily

Praise | Let Us Love and Sing and Wonder

Confession of Faith | The Apostles’ Creed

Leader: Christians, what do you believe?
People: I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there he shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Hymn | Oh for a Thousand Tongues to Sing!

Commission

May the Lord bless you and keep you, may the Lord make His face shine upon you, and give you peace forever, Amen.
