Life of David

Life of David

We have spent the Summer looking through the Psalms, many of which were written by David. David is known as “a man after God’s own heart” but he’s also a flawed and relatable person for us. When we study the life of David and his relationships with the people around him and with God, we get a glimpse of our own lives. These poetic Psalms have given us insight not only into who David was, but who we are, and who God is. This Fall, we will look at David’s life in the narratives of the Old Testament, seeking to better understand who David is, and in the process, seeking a better understanding of our relationship with God.

Theologians and scholars have argued for generations about what makes David so special. His life had high-notes where he demonstrated his faith and commitment to God; but these were coupled with obvious sins and flaws. Kevin DeYoung, a pastor and theologian writes that “David was a great man because he was willing to overlook others’ sins but unwilling to overlook his own.” During this series, I pray that we will learn some of these lessons from David’s life: how to forgive, how to repent, and how to put our trust more fully in God.
